I am on staff at a church in San Diego called Existence Church as the Pastor of Couples & Families. I'm also doing school assemblies and finishing a degree in World Religions. RMC was the tool by which God FOREVER changed my life. I'm in debt to people like Jeremy, Jen, Beth, Doug, Carissa, Stacey, and others for their investment into my life. They showed me that life wasn't about religious do's and dont's, but a very real relationship with the God who created us. Just thinking back to that time floods my mind with memories of prayer, great friendships, and "hand's on" training. RMC prepared me for life by exposing me to excellence. I've been able to always "raise the bar" for myself and others around me because that is the way of the Rockford Master's Commission. To all future students: Go to Master's Commission for a year, and then a university. God want's to develop your heart, and then your mind. I'm convinced he is scattering us all over the world to influence others for Him. Not in a pushy, "turn or burn" kind of way- But when you see someone else love something or someone, you can't help but feel love too for the same thing. As was once said, "What the world needs are people who have come alive."
RMC grounded me spiritually and helped me figure out who I was in the best possible environment, at, what I consider to be the most crucial time of my life. It also introduced me to the best people I have ever known (one being my hubby.) One of the most valuable life lessons I learned in Master's was how to work and communicate with every kind of personality possible. I came to Rockford and got exposed to Paradigm, the skate ministry and that’s really what just put a fire under me like never before. I was shown what I was created for. If it weren’t for Rockford, I wouldn’t be serving the Lord now. I wouldn’t be in ministry if it weren’t for RMC. You’ll spend 9 months at Master’s Commission, but you’ll spend the rest of your life reflecting back on it.
RMC prepared me in the intangible aspects. It taught me discipline! Discipline in my devotional life, discipline in my work ethic and a myriad of other things as well! It taught me to dream! Not just to dream, but dream big! It prepared me for some of the toughest times I have had to walk through in ministry and my personal life.
RMC changed my point of view and help me to see a broader spectrum of ministry opportunities. During my time in Rockford the daily walk was sown into my life. I have come to realize that I cannot give what I don’t have, so the importance of daily discipline, prayer, Bible reading, living in community and fasting have been proven to me. When we look at our work now that encompasses thousands and thousands of people, who just a few short years back had never heard the name of Jesus, the foundation of that work was laid several decades back in Rockford,IL.
RMC gave me a safe place to discover who God created me to be. I could try and even if I failed while attempting to come alive in my calling there was always a group of letaders to encourage, no matter what! Today much of how I function was learned many years ago in RMC. RMC saved my life, literally! It is from the uniqueness of this structured program where I grasped for the first time in my life what it truly means to be in this world but not of it. The values of the Rockford Master's Commission taught me how to let go of the reigns and trust God not only with my soul, but with my life. It has been 11 years since I graduated from the program in 1997 and there still is not a day that goes by where I don't pull from the applicable fundamentals that were so deeply implemented in my life while in the program.
RMC helped me to grow in discipline both personally and spiritually. It taught me to place a priority on discipleship, both by being a follower of Jesus and showing others how to do the same. A huge thing that I learned was that I will never regret the time I spend serving others.
RMC helped me to learn to work hard and not give up in difficult situations. I learned what it meant to “MAKE it HAPPEN”. The quiet times in the morning helped me to develop
The love and discipline I learned in Master’s has carried on into my business and family. Honestly, without RMC I am not sure where my relationship with God would be. Among the many things that it taught me was to leave my ego at the door
